The nuns of the Monastery of Our Lady of Peace live the Benedictine Spirituality according to the Order of Saint Benedict. This spirituality is nourished in three sources of life in the Spirit: the Liturgy, Lectio Divina (Holy Scripture) and the Rule of St. Benedict.

The community, aware that the Eucharist is the culmination of the Liturgy of the Christian life, meets daily for the Eucharistic Celebration.

Liturgy of the Hours

Held seven times and continued by individual prayer through the day, it is a strong time of the prayer life of the nuns, who express their appreciation for him through an active and prayerful presence. The life of continuous prayer is not an escape from everyday realities, but the encounter with the truths of human existence in the deepest of being. The nuns begin their prayers early and while most of the city sleeps, they are already standing in prayer, thanking God for the gifts He bestows on men and interceding for them.

Simplified Gregorian melodies and adapted to Portuguese allow the participation of guests and visitors and give the Craft of the Monastery a pacifying beauty, which introduces easily into the intimacy of God.

Lectio Divina

The nuns consecrate daily a meditated reading of Sacred Scripture - Lectio Divina - and other spiritual readings, a way for contemplation and communion with God.

Saint Benedict's Rule

The nuns of the Monastery of Our Lady of Peace live according to the Rule of St. Benedict, the third source of Benedictine spirituality, along with the liturgy and lectio divina. It was written in Latin by St. Benedict in the early sixth century. There are several issues and translations of the Rule or RB, as it is commonly called.
