The homeless population faces daily challenges that go beyond hunger and lack of shelter. Violence is one of the main threats to these people, and has become a recurring problem in several cities in Brazil. In Feira de Santana, Bahia, the year 2024 was marked by tragic episodes that show the invisibility of these people in society.
Between October 2 and 4, 2024, four homeless people were brutally murdered in different parts of the city. The victims - two men and two women - were killed violently, which caused a stir and outrage in the local community.
These crimes took place in public places, such as streets and squares, highlighting the extreme vulnerability of this group. And it is only now, months after the event, that the body of one of these victims, Morena, who was assisted by @csmjesse, can be buried.
Cases like these highlight the urgent need for specific public policies that guarantee protection, dignity and social inclusion for homeless people. Violence against this group cannot be naturalized or ignored. Social mobilization and government action are needed to transform this reality, ensuring that everyone has access to fundamental rights, regardless of their socioeconomic status.

“Every time Morena came to us for a bath, we immediately provided her with everything she needed to feel good and happy. Sister Sinor had a special perfume that was only used by Morena. By divine coincidence, on the day we said goodbye to Morena, we found her perfume spilled in the drawer of the CSMJ office. Her perfume intoxicated the room. Tears welled up in our eyes. Morena, now rest!”
